Welcome to The Learning Center

Located at 2153 S. Millard Avenue, The Learning Center offers Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Classes are available both at The Learning Center and at Malcolm X College, as we operate as an off-campus site of Malcolm X College.

Class Schedules
ABE & HSE (GED Prep Classes): Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 1 PM
ESL: Monday & Wednesday, 9 AM to 1 PM

Cost
All classes at The Learning Center are FREE, reflecting our commitment to supporting adults who want to further their education.

Enrolling in Classes
To enroll in classes at The Learning Center, all students must complete the City Colleges of Chicago registration process. Prospective students must visit The Learning Center during our open registration dates to complete the following:

    1. Apply Online: Complete the City Colleges of Chicago admissions application.
    2. Take a Placement Test: This test is conducted in person at The Learning Center to determine your starting level.
    3. Provide Proof of Residency: Bring documentation to verify your proof of address.

Note: If you are 16 or 17 years old, you need to provide an official Release Form from the last high school you attended.

Registration for the Next Term

The Fall 2026 term began in August, 24 2026.

Registration Information
GED and ESL registration has closed, but if you are interested in GED prep, you can call 773-277-3111 to ask about available tutoring opportunities.
