Welcome to The Learning Center

Located at 2153 S. Millard Avenue, The Learning Center offers Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Classes are available both at The Learning Center and at Malcolm X College, as we operate as an off-campus site of Malcolm X College.

Class Schedules
ABE & HSE (GED Prep Classes): Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 12 PM
ESL: Monday & Wednesday, 9 AM to 12 PM

Cost
All classes at The Learning Center are FREE, reflecting our commitment to supporting adults who want to further their education.

Enrolling in Classes
To enroll in classes at The Learning Center, all students must complete the City Colleges of Chicago registration process. Prospective students must visit The Learning Center during our open registration dates (see below) to complete the following:

    1. Apply Online: Complete the City Colleges of Chicago admissions application.
    2. Take a Placement Test: This test is conducted in person at The Learning Center to determine your starting level.
    3. Provide Proof of Residency: Bring documentation to verify your proof of address.

Note: If you are 16 or 17 years old, you need to provide an official Release Form from the last high school you attended.

Registration Information
Spring 2026 registration is now open for GED and ESL classes. Please see our registration hours below.

The Spring 2026 term begins on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Open Registration Hours:

▪ Monday through Friday, December 1 to 19
▪ Monday, January 5
▪ Tuesday, January 6
From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

To register, you must apply and take a placement test.
Allow 2 hours to complete the registration process.
